Typology of running waters in Austria – Hydromorphological concepts
The EU Water Framework Directive requires an evaluation of the ecological status in terms of the individual types of waters as well as the achievement of the good ecological status in all European waters by 2015. > more about: Typology of running waters in Austria – Hydromorphological concepts

Surveys of fish stocks in running waters – Handbook of methodology
Although most of Austria's running waters have a very good water quality, they are often affected by hydrological and morphological interventions. The 2004 status quo analysis reflected that about 60% of the waters are in danger of failing to meet the “good status”. > more + downloads about: Surveys of fish stocks in running waters – Handbook of methodology

Status quo analysis of waters smaller than 100 km²
Mainly as a result of the lack of data on the hydromorphological stress on smaller waters the risk assessment for the Austrian status quo analysis 2004 as provided for in section 55 d of the Water Rights Act was first limited to running waters with catchment areas of over 100 km². > more + downloads about: Status quo analysis of waters smaller than 100 km²

Water power and ecology – a contradiction?
Our rivers are living environments which are to be preserved and to be protected. The EU Water Framework Directive stipulates that a “good ecological status” has to be achieved in all waters all over Europe by 2015 with a possible extension of the deadline until 2027.

EU Water Framework Directive – New goals for the Austrian Water Framework Directive
Classification of the Austrian waters for the EU Water Framework Directive. The Ministry of Life submitted in working parties together with representatives of the Federal Provinces the Status Quo Analysis of the situation of Austrian waters. It deals with the concrete identification of bodies of water, the present situation in terms of pollution, the preliminary classification concerning the risk of missing the good status and the identification of possible candidates for heavily modified water bodies according to the EU Water Framework Directive.
For more information on these results please look at the documents enclosed herewith or at the respective press release from 29 April 2004. > more + downloads about: EU Water Framework Directive – New goals for the Austrian Water Framework Directive07.12.2005, Lebensministerium VII/5
